Acne Cyst

Acne is a common skin problem caused when the excess oil secretion form the sebaceous glands fail to escape through the pores of the skin and accumulate resulting in you looking for an acne cyst treatment.

Also hormonal imbalances and stress related factors may also be considered responsible for resulting in the formation of acne. While in its milder form, acne or pimples are capable of causing inflammations or swellings on the skin, sometimes they can split and spread over greater areas and swell considerably to form an acne cyst or nodulocystic acne.

Acne cysts are considered to be extremely painful and one of the most severe forms of acne and they occur commonly in males and affect different parts of the body like the back and chest regions apart from the face.

There may be various symptoms of acne cysts which may distinguish it from the common acne formations on the skin. These include ejection of pus and red swellings and inflammations on the skin. Scars are a very notable feature of these acne cysts and they commonly accompany the acne cysts along with reddened swollen nodules.

While it has already been pointed out that acne cysts are extremely painful, a very rare version of the acne cyst is referred to as acne conglobata. These are extremely severe and form painful and discomforting boils on the apart from resulting in scars as well.

Acne Cyst Treatment

These lesions appear often in the form of a group of ‘macrocomedones’ and form cysts filled with infectious pus. It is natural to state that since acne cysts are severe in nature, it is quite difficult to provide easy remedies as treatment. However, with the advancement of technology, different forms of treatment are available in order to cure oneself from acne cysts.

With the growing popularity of cosmetic surgery it is possible to treat acne cysts easily with the help of laser acne treatments. Isotretinoin is a substance derived from retinoic acid or Vitamin A and it is most effective in treating acne cysts.

It is advisable that this retinoid be used as soon as the inflammation is diagnosed as an acne cyst so that the medication is able to prevent the formation of scars. Usually this treatment needs to be continued for about 4 to 5 months for best results.

Moreover, it has been researched that isoretinoin is extremely beneficial in acne cyst treatment as it reduces the sebum production form the sebaceous glands and thus prevents inflammation. It is also beneficial in preventing the growth of acne bacteria.

If you suffered from acne, you would know that severe acne like cystic lesions could create scarring, redness and pigmentation. If the acne was not treated or was left to “run its course” and the person suffering from it loved to pick and squeeze, he’d likely suffer from severe blemishes or scars. Unfortunately, the blemishes are often the biggest source of concern. The unsightly scars could last longer than the acne breakouts. In fact, without treatment, you could probably have those scars for the rest of your life.Inflammation
Once the skin inflammation cause by the acne heals, it usually leaves a reddish mark on the area affected by the acne breakout. The reddening could lasts from days to months. What causes this reddening? The skin reddening is basically caused by healing of blood vessels under the skin. If no more inflammations or lesions develop, the healing process will continue and reddening will go on until the skin has fully healed.
Can the skin reddening be treated? Unfortunately, it cannot be treated. You have to wait for it to run its path and go away on its own. Of course, you can adopt habits that will facilitate the process. You can wear sunscreen when you go out of the house. You can wear umbrella, caps or hats in order to protect your skin from sun exposure.
You might also notice scabs forming while the reddening goes away. Resist the urge to pick and peel off the scabs. They are there to protect your skin. If you peel off the scabs, it can reverse the healing process. You would have to deal with the redness longer than you would want to.
If you have the money to spend, you can also undergo an IPL therapy in order to hasten the healing process. But you should reconsider this, however, because the reddening will eventually go away with time and patience. So, why waste your money?Pigmentations
There are people who would experience pigmentations developing over the areas previously affected by acne. Of course, not everyone who suffered from acne would also deal with pigmentations. Pigmentations will likely result:
a. In cases of severe acne or cystic acne. People, suffering from this type of acne, will likely experience pigmentation once the inflammation clears up.
b. When acne sufferer picks or squeezes his lesions or pimples.
c. When they take certain oral antibiotics which can cause pigmentation
Can you treat pigmentations? Yes, you could treat pigmentations. Although, they would likely clear up in a few days or months, you could still hasten the process with some anti-pigmentation products like lightening creams. It is important, however, that you adopt measures in order to make sure that acne breakout will not occur on the same area.Unsightly scars
The most concern that acne patients are worrying about are unsightly scars.
How does scarring occur? Scarring occur when the skin’s collagen breaks down which results to permanent skin damage and texture changes. So, if you are suffering from acne, do not let the acne run its course. Seek treatment for it before it gets worst and results to permanent scarring. If the inflammation is severe or if the acne is cystic, you should definitely seek immediate treatment.
Can scars be treated? Yes, they can be treated by laser but they’d cost you a pretty nifty amount of money. However, the laser treatment may be or may not be effective. There may be improvements but they can not restore your skin to its former pre-acne day texture.

Acne is a skin condition that affects an individuals external appearance and internal emotional and psychological stress. Cystic acne is one of the worst forms of this skin condition as well at one of the most difficult to treat. Individuals who suffer from these deep and painful nodules are often desperate to find a cure that works for them. Unfortunately, many turned to over-the-counter medications and believe some of the advertising that manufacturers use to draw in more customers.

While this condition is troublesome, painful and acutely embarrassing it is not a serious medical condition. However, left untreated or treated poorly, it can leave permanent scar tissue that will only resolve with coverup makeup. As well as permanent skin scars the condition can also significantly affect the psychological makeup and development of young teenagers.

Most often cystic acne forms over the face but it can also occur on the back, chest, buttocks and thighs. These nodules are deep, large and painful and do not usually develop into whiteheads. Because they are the most severe form of acne, and lead to scarring and pitting, they should be treated by an experienced dermatologist at once.

In some cases cystic acne can be described as a localized infection or abscess that develops under the skin. Most often it is common in teenagers and develops in oil docs that become clogged and infected. However, this infection is much deeper than the usual pimple and doesn’t usually “rise to the surface” like a regular whitehead. These nodules also can last for months instead of days or weeks.

If left untreated the nodule may not resolve on its own which can flare up again and again over time. Never attempt to squeeze this type of pimple because it drives the infection even further into the dermal layer. They are filled with pus and usually are at least 5 mm or more across. Most of them also have a red or purple hue around the nodule.

People who suffer from cystic acne usually have other forms of acne as well that can be mild, moderate or severe. If you believe you may have a cystic nodule it is important to make an appointment with a dermatologist as quickly as possible. If you are not already a patient of a dermatologist you will find that the waiting time can be a couple of months before you’re able to get in.

Your dermatologist will be able to give you the best option available for your particular skin type, any other acne involvement and the number of cystic nodules you have. Most of the times a dermatologist will inject the nodule with cortisone to decrease the inflammation and speed the healing process. This also decreases the risk of scarring.

At home, you may use several different treatment options that may help your the first involves the juicing a fresh apricot and applying it over the skin. This will often help bring relief from the pain and because it is apricots have an anti-inflammatory effect it can also decrease the swelling. Try leaving the juice on the face for several hours before bedtime.

Another option is the use of high grade tea tree oil which has a natural antibiotic properties and will go beneath the layers of the skin and penetrate the cyst.

Once you reach the dermatologist and receive an injection or are placed on oral treatments they will evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment protocols. If the cyst does not resolve the physician may drain it under sterile technique in the office. This should NEVER be attempted at home because it can result in significant infection and unfortunate scarring.

Individuals who suffer from cystic acne must be careful with their skin cleansing routine, foods that they come in contact with, and other medical treatments which may trigger an outbreak. Combining good nutrition, proper cleansing and treatment by an experienced dermatologist most individuals are able to reduce the number of cystic acne outbreaks they suffer significantly.

Suffering from acne can be annoying at the best of times and be socially devastating at the worst of times. Sufferers become acutely aware that their acne is starting to effect their self esteem, they may become withdrawn from social settings and become preoccupied with their skin.

Sufferers of severe or cystic acnes may even be more conscious of the way they look considering that cystic acne often cannot be cleared with over the counter medication and their effects tend to be more lasting. Because the infection is usually deep under the skin, topical solutions have little effectiveness in clearing the blockage and dealing with the cause of the acne.

So what should you do if you suffer from severe acne breakouts?

The first thing you should do is try over the counter medication first. These are your general acne treatments that do not require a doctors prescription. If the symptoms or the severity persists and you are dissatisfied with the over the counter medication you should then consult a dermatologist with alternative treatments.

A dermatologist can recommend or prescribe a course of treatment or medication to help treat the acne. In many cases of severe nodular acne or cystic cysts, a dermatologist will prescribe isotretinoin, which has the product name of Accutane or Roaccutane which pretty much the same thing. This is a course of medication which has shown to be very effective with dealing with severe acne but there are some disadvantages that you should be aware of before jumping at this as a cure all solution.

Roaccutane works by reducing the size of oil glands so that much less oil is produced and the growth of bacteria is decreased. Usually your dermatologist will determine the dosage that you will be on and this is different for each individual.

Isotretinoin does a great job in clearing severe acne in most patients. Some of the side effects that you should be aware of when taking the drug include, dryness of the skin, it can cause birth defects, depression which may lead to suicide attempts amongst others that your dermatologist will explain prior to starting you on the treatments.

The good news is that most sufferers will find that they acne will be under control after a cycle of Isotretinoin with many never experience acne again or in much milder outbreaks. Others may need a second cycle to get their acne under control.

If you are a long time sufferer then Roaccutane may be your last result which you can consider in conjunction with your health professional.

Desperate situations need desperate remedies! Such is the call of situation when you receive severe acne on your face, neck or bottom.
But then, to treat severe acne you need to learn various basic and medical aspects of this problem.
The initial symptoms for all the three types of acne that is mild, moderate and severe acne including blackheads, whiteheads, under skin cysts and pimples, are all the same. The question is how long these unwanted and uninvited guests stay on with you. That too on the prominent part of your face!
Sometimes they may stay on for months, and cause lots of anxieties, besides expenses on treatment! And when they leave, they leave the scars on your face. Many of these scars are permanent and difficult to remove! So, your psychological suffering may continue for months together. Or say, until the scars disappear!
So, the main problem is how to carry on with the damage control exercise, in case of severe attack of acne? The emphasis is on cleanliness. Dirt and oil are the enemies of the skin at this stage. Wash the face two times a day, with a cleanser and hydrogen peroxide. Toxic materials must not find a repository in the skin cells. The causes of your acne may lie elsewhere, but this is one of the most important preliminary steps to control the severity of acne.
Next, your eating habits require a review. Drink lots of water. Your body deserves a thorough flush out at this stage. The chances of infection must be met resolutely. Along with the medication, your consultation with the dermatologist needs to be on a regular basis.
The severe cases of acne require oral antibiotics. Tetracycline and erythromycin are recommended in such cases. Even the best of medications may not give immediate results in the case of severe acne. It may take some months before the severity of acne is brought under control. One vitamin A related drug Isotretinoin has shown the results in this case. For women, hormonal therapies are also used to cure such acne. In most severe cases, Corticosteriod, a strong anti-inflammatory substance is prescribed by the doctors.
Though, the medication may vary from individual to individual. It depends upon so many variable factors such as age of the individual, the skin type etc apart from fixed factors.
Wrong diet and stress are the contributing factors for increase in the severity of acne. But they are not the be-all and the end-all of the problem. But remember, foods that are unfriendly to the healthy growth of your skin, are friendly to the growth of acne.
Another form of treatment for severe acne is laser therapy. So far the Bluelight Therapy meets with the approval of Federal Drug Administration for treating acne. The treatment demands its time. It lasts for 8 sessions, each one lasting for 15 minutes.

The fight against acne has been going on for a long time. Scientists are constantly researching to find new therapies and patients have gone through endless trials, over-the-counter medications and home remedies. Even thought the market offers a huge amount of products, it is yet to find a cure for acne.

Mild and moderate cases of acne can be tackled and controlled by acne medicines and treatments found in our market today, but the story for people with severe acne is different, expensive and time consuming. However, there are means to tackle such difficult condition.Tackling Cystic Acne with Antibiotics

It is almost 100 years since antibiotics were discovered and it is well known that they are really good treatments for any kind of infection, including acne. Nowadays antibiotics are used to fight extreme infection due to acne bacteria, such as cystic acne.

If you are a person that suffers from severe cystic acne, you might be considering these treatment options. Below is a list of antibacterial products that are generally used for severe acne infections.

Erythromycin is an antibiotic that is used to kill acne-causing bacteria. It also reduces swelling and redness of the infected areas, which is a well known symptom when dealing with cystic acne. The medical advice when taking this acne medication is to ingest these with a full stomach, otherwise, they are known to cause nausea.

Clindamycin is a drug that is very effective against P. Acnes. This drug comes as a topical or oral acne medicine. This antibacterial is prescribed by your doctor depending on your needs. The possible consequence of taking this medication is intestinal infections and yeast infections among female patients.Tetracycline is also a medication that kills the acne-inducing bacteria but it is usually prescribed for a short-term therapy. This is because some types of P. acnes have become immune to this drug. Tetracycline is not suitable for  small children or pregnant women.

Doxycycline is a similar to tetracycline. It is used for more resistant cases of acne. This drug can cause increased photosensitivity and consequential sunburns.Minocycline is derived from tetracycline and can also effectively kill P. acnes. This medication is recommended to be taken orally with an empty stomach because meals can reduce its effects. It can cause the discoloration of teeth and skin, in addition to nausea and dizziness.

If you have severe acne, antibiotics might be a good way of dealing with your cystic acne. However, this must be seen as your last resort since they can cause side effects that might affect your wellbeing. The best way to prevent using antibiotics is to adopt a proper skin care routine.

Even though finding a skin care product that if effective enough for your type of acne, you need to give them a shot. Natural skin care creams are some of the best option when treating mild to severe acne as they are known to help your skin look and feel fresh.

If you are still thinking about getting a cystic acne treatment like antibiotics, it’s very important that you consult your doctor. A doctor will be able to find the best suited therapy for your type of acne.

Most of us understand acne as the irritating pimples that are commonly found on the forehead and the face. However, there are different acne types and many of these present themselves in the form of serious and chronic skin conditions. The simplest way of understanding different types is by dividing them into two basic categories —

Severe acne

Mild-to-moderate acne

Severe AcneIt is characterised by two typical features:

It can’t be cured by using OTC (over-the-counter) medications and requires expert medical advice for treatment

It is long-term in nature and some individuals have been known to experience severe forms throughout their lives

The most common severe acne types include:

Nodules

Spots created due to nodular acne are much larger in circumference and are quite painful. The nodules are like thick, hard bumps on the surface of the skin and they usually cause scarring. Without medical treatment, unsolved cases of nodules translate into impaction, i.e. presence of thick closely-packed, pit-shaped nodules for life.

Cysts

Cysts, or acne cysts, are sometimes misunderstood as nodules. However, cysts are a different type of acne and are characterized by the presence of thick pus. These can be very painful. Make sure never to squeeze or prick them as this activity can cause permanent scarring. Squeezing cystic acne leads to spreading the infection on a much larger scale.

Rosacea

Rosacea is typically found among people in the age group of 30+. These are actually a complicated version of untreated acne vulgaris. Rosacea begins as a slightly red lesion along the cheeks, chin and nose. It is one of the most severe types and can even distort the nose, a condition that’s known as rhinophyma.Mild-To-Moderate TypesMild cases of are characterised by the following features:

These pimples are temporary in nature and even if left untreated, tend to resolve with time.

A few precautions like good hygiene and use of commonly-available OTC medications are sufficient to treat them.

The most common mild/moderate acne types include:

Whiteheads — these are also called as closed comedones and are formed due to a complete blockage of the skin pore. These are embedded deep within the skin. In the absence of air, these lesions develop a distinctive white spot-like appearance.

Blackheads — these are called as open comedones as they have some level of exposure to the external air. Here, the pores are only partially clogged-up. Their defining black color is caused due to the oxidation of the melanin pigment that is found in the skin.

Papules — these are among the most common acne types and are easily recognizable due to their red, inflamed appearance. Unlike the comedones (whiteheads or blackheads), papules have no visible ‘head’.

Pustules (zits) — these are often confused with whiteheads, but pustules are actually the inflamed version of an earlier whitehead. They have a typical red circle and the centre is usually yellow or white.
